Safia Delta (b. in 1983) is a visual artist based in Marseille, France. Involving a variety of material from immediate to remote environments allows her to develop an autonomy that is part of her feminist approach to the medium. She considers photography as an answer to a need for mending. To reconcile the strata of beings sheltered throughout her lifetime, she activates her subconscious and disrupts temporal limitations.
Her work develops an existential questioning revolving around the construction of identity as experienced by diasporic beings through the intricacies of inherited and personal histories. It also addresses societal issues related to social geographies and technological evolutions.
In 2021, her appeal for pioneering, supportive spaces led her to join the Tilawin Project as a mentor, a platform contributing to the emergence and visibility of female photographers from Algeria and its diaspora. She is now coordinating the programme along with its founder, Liasmine Fodil and she has specially designed the two artworks featured in the exhibition ‘Epilogue : waiting for Omar Gatlato’.
